Cordova II - May 9-11

This bridge was built in 1910.

Cordova - May 9-11

We took a boat from Whittier to Cordova for the Copper River Delta Shorebird Festival with our friends Stephanie, Kevin, and baby Connor. In early May, the tidal flats of the Copper River Delta shimmer with the activity of hundreds of thousands of shorebirds. As many as 5 million shorebirds rest and feed here during spring migration.

We loved our boat ride both ways - besides all those birds we saw otters, a pod of orcas, a minke whale, and Dall's Porpoises that played with the boat. We had spectacular weather and loved our little cabin called Bear Country Lodge with a great deck overlooking Eyak Lake.

Besides watching the shore birds we took the very long gravel drive out to Childs Glacier and the Million Dollar bridge (to no where).

Mollie in DC - May 2-7

I went to DC for a meeting of the National State and Territorial AIDS Directors. It was a great, long, interesting meeting. Awesome to meet the other State AIDS Directors and hear about work that is so very similar to mine. I had one evening to walk on the mall. These pictures were taken with my phone. The last one is the new WWII memorial. I like the pile of baby ducks sleeping on near the reflection pool. I felt patriotic...making hill visits and walking around beautiful DC.

Spring Snow!

Just when we thought winter was over we got dumped on! When it melted there was green grass underneath. Mark, Walter, and Laurie back country skiing. Mark and our neighbor, Jonathan, shoveling....again.

Byer's Lake Cabin - April

Girls' Weekend! Margaret, Colleen, Amber, Meaghan, Marie, and I had beautiful spring weather for skiing in a t-shirts! We stayed in the new state park cabin on Byer's Lake (located at Mile 147 of the Parks Highway).

Walter's Family Cabin in Big Lake - March

We had a fun weekend in Big Lake! Sunshine, hockey, skiing, Mark's ukulele music, and good food. Thank you Walter and Laurie for hosting and Lee for the great pictures!

Talkeetna Cabin Trips - March

Mark and I had two fun snow machining trips to Talkeetna in March. Once on our own and once with Mom and Dad Cross. While snow machining with Dad, Mark found a nice moose antler. Here is a picture of the new door that Dad put into the cabin that enters into the shop. This room is the right temperature in the winter to be the "refrigerator" and works and is set up with a metal tub for a gravity shower.

Ski for Women - February 3, 2008

This was a freezing day with a high of zero - very cold skiing! We were the Royal Tundra Chicks (thank you Cindi for the Halloween clearance outfits). As usual, there were fantastic costumes. Posted here are the Fruit of the Loom team and the orchestra with an image of the Anchorage Symphony Conductor in the middle.

Mardi Gras in New Orleans - January 2008

A work meeting in New Orleans was a good opportunity to check out the Mardi Gras parades and eat my favorite shrimp and grits.

Ohau II

We had so much fun we just booked our trip to Hawaii for 2009!
