We took a boat from Whittier to Cordova for the Copper River Delta Shorebird Festival with our friends Stephanie, Kevin, and baby Connor. In early May, the tidal flats of the Copper River Delta shimmer with the activity of hundreds of thousands of shorebirds. As many as 5 million shorebirds rest and feed here during spring migration.
We loved our boat ride both ways - besides all those birds we saw otters, a pod of orcas, a minke whale, and Dall's Porpoises that played with the boat. We had spectacular weather and loved our little cabin called Bear Country Lodge with a great deck overlooking Eyak Lake.
Besides watching the shore birds we took the very long gravel drive out to Childs Glacier and the Million Dollar bridge (to no where).
